Step 1

A population is defined as a group of members of the same species who reside in the same geographical area and can interbreed.

A closed population is a group that is unable to swap members with other members of other populations throughout time. Such a form of population expands as new individuals are born, and it only loses members when those individuals die. To put it another way, membership is permanent and is determined by certain life events. As a result, the population will eventually reach zero, because everyone will die.

Open population: In an open population, new members are added throughout time, either by immigration or birth, and the population grows over time.
