Pollution is introduction of any substance which causes undesirable disturbances in the environment/ system.

Major types of pollution include: air, water , soil and noise pollution.

Air pollution : Release of any biological or chemical contaminants such as gases, toxic chemicals is referred as air pollution. Air pollution is caused by gases released from fossil fuel burning, chemicals from industries, mining operations etc. And it has led to serious health risks such as asthma, skin diseases, cancer.

Soil pollution: It is caused by release of man-made toxic chemicals into soil which results in degradation of soil. Soil fertility is affected negatively resulting is decrease in crop productivity. Its main causes are – intensive use of chemical fertilizers and industrial waste.

Water pollution: Improper sewage disposal, untreated waste from industries contaminates the water bodies to greater extent. This type of pollution affects the aquatic plants and animals to greater extent.

Noise pollution: It occurs as a result of excessive sound in the surrounding caused by vehicles, aeroplanes , machines from industries, noises from construction sites etc. Continuous long-time exposure to noise leads to loss of hearing ability.
