Marvel Parts, Inc., manufactures auto accessories. One of the company’s products is a set of seat covers that can be adjusted to fit nearly any small car. The company has a standard cost system in use for all of its products. According to the standards that have been set for the seat covers, the factory should work 1,065 hours each month to produce 2,130 sets of covers. The standard costs associated with this level of production are:
Total | Per Set of Covers |
||||
Direct materials | $ | 35,358 | $ | 16.60
Direct labor | $ | 8,520 | 4.00
Variable manufacturing |
$ | 3,195 | 1.50 | ||
$ | 22.10 | ||||
During August, the factory worked only 1,050 direct labor-hours and produced 2,700 sets of covers. The following actual costs were recorded during the month:
Total | Per Set of Covers |
||||
Direct materials (6,000 yards) | $ | 43,740 | $ | 16.20
Direct labor | $ | 11,340 | 4.20
Variable manufacturing overhead | $ | 5,670 | 2.10
$ | 22.50 | ||||
At standard, each set of covers should require 2.0 yards of material. All of the materials purchased during the month were used in production.
Required:
1. Compute the materials price and quantity variances for August.
2. Compute the labor rate and efficiency variances for August.
3. Compute the variable overhead rate and efficiency variances for August.
(Indicate the effect of each variance by selecting "F" for favorable, "U" for unfavorable, and "None" for no effect (i.e., zero variance). Input all amounts as positive values.)

- SixthZ currently produces and sells 1,200 treehouses per year and sells them at $1200 per treehouse. SixthZ has the capacity to produce 1,400 treehouses. SixthZ has received a special order from the families in Davis's Village Homes community. They would like to buy 135 treehouses at a price of $800 per treehouse. The product unit cost for the treehouses is shown below: Direct Materials $500 Direct Labor $300 Variable Overhead $40 Fixed Overhead $100 SixthZ incurs no variable selling and administrative expenses. Should SixthZ accept the special order? O No, because accepting the order would result in a $113,400 decrease in operating income O No, because accepting the order would result in a $18,900 decrease in operating income O Yes, because accepting the order would result in a $54,000 increase in operating income O No, because accepting the order would result in a $5,400 decrease in operating incomearrow_forwardI have a few questions from the last chapter that still don't understand can i get help.arrow_forwardPlease help me set this equation up. Kearney, Inc., makes kitchen tools. Company management believes that a new model of coffee grinder would sell well at a price of $66. The company estimates unit materials costs to be $16 for the model, and overhead costs would average $18 per unit. The local wage rate for direct labor is $28 per hour. Kearney has a goal of earning an operating profit of 20 percent of manufacturing costs for each of its products. Required: What direct labor-hour input (hours per unit) could Kearney allow and still achieve its profit goal?arrow_forward

The total overhead of $300,000 has traditionally been allocated by direct labor hours, with 150,000 hours for the Standard and 50,000 hours for the Extreme. After analyzing and assigning costs to two cost pools, it was determined that machine hours is estimated to have $200,000 of overhead, with 4,000 hours used on the Standard product and 1,000 hours used on the Extreme product. It was also estimated that the setup cost pool would have $100,000 of overhead, with 1,000 hours for the Standard and 1,500 hours for the Extreme.
