Question

List three systems that cooperate to maintain blood pressure pH in an appropriate narrow range. Which of these provides the most rapid response to changes in blood pH?

Expert Solution
Step 1

The three systems in the body that regulate blood pH are the nervous system, the urinary system, and the respiratory system.

When the blood pH changes chemoreceptors transmit information to the hypothalamus in the brain. if the pH is high, excess carbon dioxide is eliminated via the respiratory system.

When the pH is too low, breathing can slow to accumulate carbon dioxide. The urinary system can also eliminate bicarbonate ions which will also help lower the blood pressure.
