List the four pairs of abdominal muscles.
List the four pairs of abdominal muscles.
The abdominal muscles are found in the front of the body between the ribs and the pelvis. By controlling internal abdominal pressure, the abdominal muscles protect the trunk, permit mobility, and keep organs in place.
Four pairs of stomach muscles meet at the anterior midline and cover the anterior and lateral abdominal regions. These anterolateral abdominal wall muscles occur in four categories: the external obliques, the internal obliques, the transversus abdominis, and the rectus abdominis.
- External obliques: The biggest and most shallow lateral abdominal muscles are the external abdominal oblique. It lies under the thoracic and abdominal membrane, overlapping the ribs and intercostal muscles with the internal abdominal oblique and anterior halves.
2. Internal obliques: An abdominal muscle in the abdominal wall that lies below the external oblique muscle and just above the transverse abdominal muscle is the abdominal, internal oblique muscle, also the internal oblique muscle or the interior oblique.
3.Transversus abdominis: Layer with the deepest muscle. The key functions are to balance the trunk and to maintain internal abdominal pressure.
4.Rectus abdominis: A coupled muscle that extends vertically on either side of the anterior wall of the human abdomen, as well as that of some other mammals, is the rectus abdominis muscle, also known as the abdominal muscle.
