A time came when historians would only believe in something if it was written because human memory would not be a reliable source as we tend to forget things. but historians were getting written documents from small groups who knew how to read and write so a lot of ordinary people didn't get to express themselves. Indian primary sources contributed to our understanding of westward expansion by expressing their opinions about the expansion. Although a lot of their experiences, memories, and thoughts didn't make it into written records.
