Oogenesis
The formation of the ovum (mature female gamete) from undifferentiated germ cells is called oogenesis. This process takes place in the ovaries (female gonads). Oogenesis consists of three stages known as the multiplication phase, growth phase, and maturation phase.

Cell division involves the formation of new daughter cells from the parent cells. It is a part of the cell cycle that takes place in both prokaryotic and eukaryotic organisms. Cell division is required for three main reasons:
Cell cycle/division is a pivotal process in all living organisms and includes cell division, replication and growth. All these processes should be carried out in a regulated manner in order to ensure correct division and production of intact progeny. Cell cycle is a sequence of events by which a cell duplicates its genetic material, synthesizes other cell constituents and divides into two daughter cells.
Cell division is of two types : mitosis is where the parental cell divides into two cells with identical genetic material and meiosis involves the reduction of the parental genetic material into equal halves.
