Assimilation is a process by which varying cultures of Individuals or groups are integrated with the prevailing culture and customs. The European settlers came to Canada and established their rule over lands that were inhabited by the indigenous population. With time, the government passed several laws to assimilate the remaining original population. Canada’s first Prime Minister, Sir John A. Macdonald devised the first Canadian policy of Aboriginal assimilation. The assimilation of the indigenous population was not uniform and sustainable.
