Question

If you wanted to change the atomic number in the simulation, changing the number of which particle or particles would do that?

Expert Solution
Step 1

An atom contains the subatomic particles like Electrons, Protons and Neutrons.

The subatomic particles are arranged across the atom, such that, the electrons are placed in the atomic orbitals and the protons and neutrons are placed in the centre of the atom which is known as the nucleus.

The number of electrons, protons are the same in a neutral atom.

The 2 basic definitions of an atom are:

(1) Atomic number: The number of electrons in the neutral state of an atom or the number of neutrons present in the nucleus.

(2) Atomic mass number: It is the total number of protons and neutrons present in the nucleus.
