(Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences - Hlospital Information Management System)
Pakistan Insititute of medical sciences (PIMS) wants to develop a hospital information
management system (HIMS) the main purpose of the system will be to manage the information related
to the different types of patents visiting the hospital. The system will also manage the information
about the different doctors who address the patients in the all wards of hospital.
The PIMS – HIMS is an information system that will be used in different department of hospital. We
wanted to develop this system is in time no more than 6 months. Our hospitals IT team will coordinate
with your software organization and take feedback at weekly basis so that we can timely ensure the
delivery of our software system. The key features of the system are:
1. Emergency care management: Hospital reception staff will insert records for patient's emergency
treatment, The system will instantly generate the patient deposit slip for critical patent and
information will be transferred to corresponding doctor and medical staff. If the patients old record
is available the doctor will also be able to see his medical history. All the emergency test required
for the patient will be forwarded to medical lab staff using PIMS-HIMS. The lab staff will be able
to see the test prescribed for patient and then after the test of patient the lab staff will upload the lab
test report at PIMS-HIMS.
2. Patient Management: According to the policy of hospital Pat-IN (Patient identification number)
should will be issued to each patient. The policy for the issuing the Pat-IN is mentioned in hospital
rules and regulations document. The system will keep the record of all patients and schedule their
upcoming appointments with doctors moreover system should be able to issues warmings if deadline
to meet doctor passed away.
3. Admin Staff & Reporting: The admin staff should be able to generate monthly reports & statistics
showing the number of patients treated at cach ward and department, the number of patients who
have entered and left the care system, number of patients sectioned, the drugs prescribed and their
costs. The system should be providing the report of 1000 patients in no more than 10 minutes. In
other words, system should be fast enough to generate 100 reports per minute.
4. Data Analysis: The system should be able to perform the data analysis by calculating the total
number of patients who visited the hospital on daily basis, how many patients are checked by each
r of
doctor. Categorization of patients with respect to the types of mental illness. Data analysis of tests
conducted on daily basis along with the medication suggested to patents. Data should be quite casy
to interpret and visualization of information should be truly clear so that any hospital user maybe it
is a doctor or administrator can understand the visual results in less than 5 minutes. The system
should support a web portal that can be accessed using the both mobile devices and computers of
different screen sizes. System should be supported with the local servers and cloud storage for the
data backup. The privacy of our patients' data is significant issue so proper password and pin
automation mechanisms should be implemented. Our system should also be able to communicate
with Old PMS (Patient Management System) and PMDC (Pakistan Medical and Dental Council)
ERP system so that data related to attendance and availability of doctors can also be shared with
PMDC.
