M phase is also known as mitotic phase during which cell undergoes division.

Cell division is a process during which parent cell divides and gives rise to daughter cells. There are two types of cell division: mitosis and meiosis.

In mitosis, parent cell divides and gives rise to two equal daughter cell, whereas in meiosis, parent cell divides and gives rise to four haploid cells.
