Question

The current pandemic situations have upturned the entire social situation around the globe, where the economic conditions of people have been affected tremendously. Since many people have lost their jobs therefore it is getting difficult for them to meet their ends and the families of these people are suffering badly.

Thus, help from many voluntary as well as nonvoluntary organizations have cropped in, which has helped many but since the rate of poverty is increasing day by day as the upper-middle-class families are lingering down to the lower-middle-class categories, therefore well-built strategies are needed to overcome these harsh situations of the present times.

The social welfare services need to develop the following measures in order to meet the real as well as perceived needs of the families:

  • They need to encourage people above 40 to take the vaccines, and not fear its repercussions, like what after-effects the vaccines will have, rather they should willingly come and get themselves vaccinated.
  • They must ensure that people follow the covid-19 protocols and not step out of the house without wearing a mask neither they should crowd around any place, but maintain social distancing at all times.
  • Like Andra and Baxter, many families are facing difficulties to meet their ends, the SWS should provide basic daily needs like food items along with soaps and masks so that families do not die out of hunger.
  • The SWS should also provide monetary help to the families especially to those where their earning member had lost job.
  • The SWS should make arrangements to get more vaccines as fast as possible so that the elderly people in the families get vaccinated soon and at least get some protection from the virus.
  • In this situation, Social Service workers can help build awareness among people who are subjected to fear and confusion. They can also provide social support to families by making them aware about the several initiatives that the government has taken in order to help people during the pandemic.
  • In these times, they can support families and individuals with mental health challenges as quarantines increase isolation, making these conditions tough for many people.
  • Children in these times are affected the most due to their hamper in education and the government in these cases and help through social workers by donating some tech or even network connections in areas where families can’t afford internet during the economic downfall.

Thus in these ways, the SWS can help in meeting the real as well as perceived needs of the families during the covid - 19 pandemics.
