from The Black Man’s Plea for Justice
by Ephraim David Tyler
Hear me, statesman,
I am pleading to defend
The black man’s cause.
Will you give me the protection
to outline your laws?
Will your lawyers plead my cases
in your courts?
Am I not a citizen?
I pay dear for transportation
over all your railroad track.
I come up to every requirement
and I will always pay my tax.
And when I don’t fill in blanks correctly,
will you kindly teach me how?
Ruling power of this nation,
will you give me justice now?
I prepared your wedding supper
and I dug your father’s grave.
I did everything you asked me
just because I was your slave.
I helped build your great bridges
and I laid your railroad steel.
Oh, I been a mighty power
in your great financial wheel.
And when I don’t do jobs correctly
will you kindly teach me how?
Ruling power of this nation
will you give me justice now?
What is the mood of the poem?

Below the homework problem is a screenshot of an excel spreadsheet with data for this problem. If there is one thing engineers like, it is a good pizza that is delivered in a timelymanner. A particular pizza chain is thinking about offering a guarantee of “lessthan 30 minutes, or it’s free” on all of its deliveries. If the pizza business can pullthis off, they will impress customers across the nation, but having to walk thispromise back would be devastating to the reputation of the business. However, the CEO will not green light this policy if it means taking a substantial hitto profits. Accounting has run some numbers, and they have determined thatthe business can only miss 5% of all deliveries before the costs of the misseddeliveries begin to impact profitability. The CEO agrees to a pilot test. 120drivers time their deliveries with a…arrow_forwardInaugural Addressby Nelson Mandela (excerpt) We trust that you will continue to stand by us as we tackle the challenges of building peace, prosperity, non-sexism, non-racialism and democracy. We deeply appreciate the role that the masses of our people and their political mass democratic, religious, women, youth, business, traditional and other leaders have played to bring about this conclusion. Not least among them is my Second Deputy President, the Honourable F. W. de Klerk. We would also like to pay tribute to our security forces, in all their ranks, for the distinguished role they have played in securing our first democratic elections and the transition to democracy, from blood-thirsty forces which still refuse to see the light. The time for the healing of the wounds has come. The moment to bridge the chasms that divide us has come. The time to build is upon us. We have, at last, achieved our political emancipation. We pledge ourselves to liberate all our people from the continuing…arrow_forwardRadar detectors are either powered by their own battery or plug into the cigarette lighter socket. Provide at least 5 deductive reasoningarrow_forwardFor the time being, the air traffic control system in the United States is run by the federal government. Several groups disagree with this and would like to privatize the air traffic control system. Among the arguments given for privatization is that flight delays are much too common in the United States. A first step in deciding if, indeed, delays in the U.S. are "too common" might be to compare the flight delay information from the U.S. and other nations. You have in front of you the following chart, which summarizes the information from three samples of flights from the past six weeks. One of the samples is composed of domestic U.S. flights, one is composed of domestic Canadian flights, and one is composed of domestic British flights. The information recorded for each flight is the time (in minutes) that the plane was late to the arrival gate. (If the plane was early, the time recorded was negative.)
