The water or any liquid can be classified as acid or base (alkaline). This can be determined using the pH value. When the pH value is less than 7 it is termed as acid, when the value is above 7 it is termed as alkaline, and when the value is equal to 7 it is termed as neutral. The pH value of water should be between 6.5 – 8.5
The indicator called phenolphthalein is added in water then it is titrated with sodium hydroxide until the change of color occurs. This indicates the value of pH.
