Explain why septic shock could be referred to as “warm
shock.”

Expert Solution
Step 1 Introduction

Sepsis is a potentially fatal disease that occurs when the body's reaction to an infection damages its own tissues. When infection control processes light upon the body, they cause organs to operate incorrectly and abnormally. Septicemia can result in septic shock. This is a dramatic lowering of blood pressure, which can lead to serious organic problems and death.

Step 2

Septic shock is the most severe and fatal complication of sepsis. Septic shock can be divided into two separate types of shock: warm shock and cold shock.

Warm shock or hyperdynamic shock is characterized byinitial high cardiac output and low peripheral vascular resistance. Vasodilation caused by histamine, bradykinin, serotonin, and endorphins considerably reduce total peripheral vascular resistance. It also makes capillaries more permeable causing leaks and fluids moving through tissues and third physiological spaces. The patient in heat shock will also have an abnormally high respiratory rate(tachypnea).

Since the initial stage accompanied by hyperthermia, tachycardia, warm and flushed skin, etc. it is referred to as warm shock.
