Explain the relationship of the sympathetic division to the
spinal cord and the spinal nerves
Nervous system is an important system which helps in maintaining the homeostasis of the human body. It works with the series of sensory receptors which provides information about the changes in both the internal and external environments. It is a complex of interconnected systems in which the large systems are composed of smaller subsystems. Each of them has certain structures and functions The nervous system is a network of neurons which extends to the whole body. The neurons are divided into- Cell body- It is the main processing center of the cell. Dendrites- It is a branched extension which conducts nerve impulse towards the cell body. Axon- It is a single branch which conducts nerve impulse away from the cell body. The coverings of axon are- myelin sheath and neurilemma. There are three types of neurons- Efferent, afferent and inter-neuron. The main function of the nervous system is to check all the body activities whether it is voluntary or involuntary. There are two major components of the nervous system- CNS- It is known as the central nervous system which is made up of the brain and spinal cord. PNS- It is known as the peripheral nervous system which is made up of all the nerves that leads to the central nervous system.
