Explain the events that occur during the female sexual act.
Reproduction is defined as the process in which an offspring is produced from their parents. The phenomena of reproduction is essential for continuity of species from generation to generation. The humans reproduce by the sexual method of reproduction which involves fusion of gametes from both sexes, male and female, to form an offspring. The male and female gametes are fertilized to form an embryo which then divides and eventually gives rise to a new human being. Given the anatomy of the male and female in humans, there are distinct reproductive systems in the human body.
The male gametes are deposited into the female’s reproductive tract for successful fertilization of the sperm (male gamete) with the ovum (female gamete). This process of penetration of male reproductive part into the female reproductive system is referred to as sexual intercourse. During the sexual intercourse, the males and females undergo several physiological changes essential for the process to occur.
