Virginia backcountry had the first settlement f the British that was permanent in nature. This was Jamestown and was established in the year 1607 when a set of investors were granted a grant to set up a colony in Virginia. In the late 1600s, the place became a background for a rebellion led by a planter named Nathaniel Bacon, who led black slaves, indentured laborers, and poor white farmers.
