During Ricardo noticed an ink stain with a diameter of about 3 cm on the front of his teacher’s shirt. He then noticed that there was a pen in the pocket and that the ink blot was continuing to spread across the front of the teacher’s shirt. He estimated that the diameter of the ink blot seemed to be growing by about 0.5 cm every 2 minutes.
a) Write an equation for the RADIUS, r, of the ink stain, as a function of time, t. Assume that t = 0 represents the time that Ricardo first noticed the ink stain.
b) Write an equation showing the AREA, A, of the ink stain as a function of the time t. (Hint: It might help to first write A as a function of r. )
c) Draw a graph of the function A(t) for 10 minutes.
d) At what time is the area of the ink stain about 25 square centimeter? Show how you answer this question. (i.e. ”I found it using desmos” is not sufficient)

- A climber is climbing a mountain and after 3 hours is at an elevation of300 metres. After 7 hours the climber is at 900metres. What was the average rate of change of the climber's elevation over this time period?arrow_forwardA Ferris wheel at Charlotte's Amusement Park has a diameter of 18 m and travels at a rate of 6 revolutions every 2 min. At the bottom of the ride, the passenger is 2 m above the ground. Sketch the graph of the rider's height above the ground, in meters, verses the time, in seconds, for 2 minutes. Assume the rider starts at the highest position at 1= 0.arrow_forwardAn aireraft flies at a constant height along a straight path of 8 km above the ground. The angle of elevation from a fixed point on the ground to the aireraft is marked as x radians, which varies with time. The horizontal distance along the ground of the aircraft from the fixed point is marked as y km. The aircraft is flying at a constant speed of 500 km/h. Find the rate of change of x, in radian per hour, when x is radians ? 8 kmarrow_forward
- When drugs are administered into the bloodstream, the amount of the drug present decreases continuously at a constant rate. The amount of a certain drug, Xanaz, in the bloodstream is modeled by the function, where is the initial dosage, and t is the time (in hours) after the initial dose was given. The following chart shows the relationship between the original dose and how much is sti in the system after so much time.
