Dual cycle's four processess . efficiency derivation, advantages and disadvantages

Expert Solution
Step 1

Dual cycle

The dual cycle is a mixture of two cycles, namely Otto and diesel cycle. In this heat added in two manners that is half of the heat is added at constant pressure and half is added at a volume.

The pressure v/s volume graph of the dual cycle is shown below,

Mechanical Engineering homework question answer, step 1, image 1

The processes of Dual’ cycles are

  • Process 1-2: in this part, the fluid is injected and compressed adiabatically which means zero exchange of heat.
  • Process 2-3: in this part, the heat energy is added to the compressed fluid at constant volume.
  • Process 3-4: in this part, half of the heat energy is added to the compressed fluid at constant pressure.
  • Process 4-5 and process 5-1: first the power stroke is initiated which transfers the power further to the machine and the used/exhaust gases after the process of combustion is escaped which is known as the heat rejected.
