I filled an empty space in the container jar with cotton ball, then I placed my egg inside and filled the top with more cotton balls making sure my egg was well secured. Since the lid of the jar could be closed well and secured, I went ahead and closed it well making sure the lid will not fall off upon the impact and started my experiment. I Practice dropping the container from different heights, I did 6ft and 10ft. After dropping each, I check to see whether the egg has survived and after each drop and replace all materials before conducting a second drop. Question "What physics concept(s) did I employed to protect my egg?" (Hint: Consider the factors that affect air resistance and/or how impulse may apply.)

Step 1

First we will focus on Newton's laws of motion. The first law states that an object at rest will stay at rest, and an object in motion will stay in motion, unless acted upon by an external unbalanced force. This law means that if the forces acting on a falling egg are equal, it will remain in its current state of motion. If a force greater than those acting on the egg is applied, it will accelerate. "Acceleration" means any change in velocity -- slowing down, speeding up or changing direction. If we hold an egg, the forces you are applying are equal and balanced, canceling out the force of gravity. Therefore, it remains motionless in our hand. If we let go of the egg, gravity becomes an unbalanced force and causes the egg to fall to the ground. Impulse of a force is defined as the product of the average force and the time interval for which the force acts on the body. For eggs to be fallen safely, we can balance the force acting on eggs so that they will not break.

Newton's third law states that for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. That means when we exert a force on an object, the object exerts a force back on us equal and opposite. This concept is useful in understanding why an egg breaks when it strikes the ground; the ground is returning the force from the egg as it meets the ground. Using shock-absorbing materials can help reduce the amount of force exchanged between the ground and the egg.

When object falls, a force is acting on it. This force is caused by air resistance. Air resistance takes place between the air that surrounds an object and the surface of a falling object. As an object begins to move faster, air resistance or drag increases. Drag means the amount of air resistance impacting an object when it is moving.
