Introduction

There are twelve pairs of ribs present in the thoracic cage. Each rib is a curved flattened bone that is connected dorsally to the vertebral column. Of the 12 pairs, the first 7 pairs are termed as true ribs as they are connected directly to the sternum and remaining 5 are false ribs or floating ribs as they are not connected to the sternum.
