Differentiate between Profile leveling and cross sectioning (with the help of diagrams)
Profile Leveling:
Profile levelling involves determining the elevations of the various points in series or along a line at measured intervals. It is an extension of differential leveling and requires a closure check for ensuring correctness of the leveling.
Profile leveling is also termed as Longitudinal Leveling or Sectioning and is most commonly adopted for roadways, pipelines, etc. The results are plotted in the form of a profile, which shows the vertical cross-section of the leveling profile.
The following figure shows an example of profile leveling.
The entire length of the survey line is divided into a number of intervals as shown in the figure and elevation is determined at the points. The corresponding elevation and survey line is plotted which results in a vertical cross-section along the survey line.
