Describe ways in which the state of Texas has, historically, restricted access to voting.
Texas has a 150-year old history of voter suppression.
The Voting rights act of the year 1965 was an indispensable move for guaranteeing minority rights and the voter's access to the ballot. The country has long had voting discrimination against Latinos and African- American citizens, which dates back to 1845. The 1965 act integrate these discriminated communities, and more recently, it has included Asian-Americans in the political structure of the country. The unequal education and lack of English language opportunities had resulted in higher illiteracy in the state. The non-compliance, combined with the low English literacy, including the depressed populations and voting discrimination had always hampered the voting system of the state.
