Define Mineral Resources
Our earth contains a plethora of natural resources which includes various elements and minerals. Minerals are generally formed in billions of years due to the number of factors beneath the earth. These minerals are excavated by the people and are used for various purposes. Some important minerals are coal, petroleum, natural gas, precious metals, etc.
The availability of the different types of minerals depends on several reasons. They are not available equally in all the countries. Some countries have a huge amount of minerals and some have a deficiency in it. For example, the Gulf countries are very rich in petroleum and on the other hand, the African continent is rich in metals like gold and silver. Switzerland does not have any significant amount of minerals.
The role of the discovery and excavation of minerals in the development of the nations since the enlightenment era has been significant. The industrial revolution in Britain gained momentum due to the high availability of coal and iron in the country. This led to the expansion of the railways and the establishment of industries.
