Define genocide?
The term 'genocide' was introduced by Raphael Lemkin in his book- 'Axis Rule in Occupied Europe.' This term is often used to describe incidents that are considered to be exceedingly evil.
Genocide can be defined as an act intended towards the destruction of ethnic, racial, national, or religious groups by methods such as killing the members, causing temporary or permanent physical damage, forcing them to live in inhuman conditions, infanticide, or kidnapping of children. Genocides are usually political conspiracies that aim to wipe out large social groups. Genocides were criminalized in 1946 following the holocaust caused by the Nazis. Under this law, the following acts were outlawed in a genocidal situation-
- killing a member of a minority group
- inflicting them to physical or mental pain
- imposing measures regarding the birth of new members of the group
- transferring their children to other groups
- forcing them to live in deplorable situations
