Respiration is a catabolic process through which respiratory substrates such as carbohydrates, fats and proteins are oxidised inside the living cells to obtain energy in the form of ATP.
Respiration is divided in two parts: breathing and cellular respiration. Breathing involves inhalation of oxygen and exhalation of carbon dioxide while cellular respiration involves the process to generate energy.
