Question c in image

Transcribed Image Text:Consider a bimolecular irreversible reaction,
A + B = C + D
To be carried out in a liquid phase plug flow reactor. Given the reaction is second order and
the mass flow of A and B are respectively 95kg/hr and 117kg/hr. The reactor has a volume
of 0.02m² and is operated isothermally at 112°C giving a conversion of 55%. Can you
conduct the following sub tasks:
(a) From first principles show that the design equation for a plug flow
reactor is:
Xa dXA
FAO
J (-ra)
Where,
V, = Volume of reactor, m?
FAo = Initial flow of A,
XA = Conversion of A
(-Ta) = Reaction rate, kmol/hr
(b) Calculate the molar feed rates of A and B and the magnitude of the
term kCao?. The relative molecular masses of A and B are 139 and 172.
(c) If a continuous stirred tank reactor of the same content volume is
installed in series upstream of the plug flow reactor, what is the new
overall conversion? All other parameters being unchanged.
