They are threadlike structure of cell which carries genetic information in form of genes
Chromosomes have a complex structure which is three dimensional and plays a crucial role in regulation of transcription.
Chromosome word comes from Greek word color,which is chroma and soma for body.
Hence the word Chromosome.
Each chromosome is made up of DNA which is tightly coiled around histones proteins for structural support.
