Identify sample (observed) proportion. This is P(Obs) in the z-formula.

Identify population proportion. This is P(Pop) in the z formula.

Compute a z score using the formula.

  • Proportion of females among applicants: P(pop) = 43/109 = .39
  • Proportion of females among hired: P(obs) = 6/24 = .25
  • N = 24

My attempt but I think I am doing an order wrong.

    • z =  .25-.39/SR.39*((1-.39)/24)
  • .25-.39 = -.14
  • 1-.39 = .61
  • .61/24  = .025
  • .39*.025 = .00975
  • SR .00975 = .0987
  • -.14/.0987 = -1.42
  • Z = -1.42
