Concept explainers
A company operates a farm on which sheep are raised. The farm manager has determined that for the sheep to grow in the desired fashion, they need minimum amounts of four nutrients. The sheep can consume more than the minimum amounts without harm. The manager is considering five different grains to feed the sheep. The attached Excel file lists the number of units of each nutrient in each pound of grain, the minimum daily requirements of each nutrient for each sheep, and the cost of each grain. It has been noticed that grains 1 and 3 may cause some dietary conflict if combined, so the manager does not want to include both grains 1 and 3 in the mix at the same time. Please develop and solve an integer programming model in excel to provide the mix that minimizes the feed cost.

The current time period is 0 (t=0). The machines used to make this product have a capacity of 50 units/time period. The company currently has 4 machines yielding a total capacity of 200 units/time period. Due to technology changes, the current equipment will become obsolete at the end of period 15. If a new machine costs $2000, and the net revenue earned per unit is $10, how many machines should be added between today (t=0) and the end of period 15?arrow_forwardFit a straight line trend to the following data on demand of steel ingots (in millions) and project the demand for the year 2009.Year2002200320042005200620072008Demand8084909398100104arrow_forward
- Daniel Grady is the financial advisor for a number of professional athletes. An analysis of the long-term goals for many of these athletes has resulted in a recommendation to purchase stocks with some of their income that is set aside for investments. Five stocks have been identified as having very favorable expectations for future performance. Although the expected return is important in these investments, the risk, as measured by the beta of the stock, is also important. (A high value of beta indicates that the stock has a relatively high risk.) The expected return and the betas for five stocks are as follows: Stock 1 2 3 4 5 Expected Return (%) 11.0 9.0 6.5 15.0 13.0 Beta 1.20 0.85 0.55 1.40 1.25 Daniel would like to minimize the beta of the stock portfolio (calculated using a weighted average of the amounts put into the different stocks) while maintaining an expected return of at least 11%. Since future conditions may change, Daniel…arrow_forwardb6 need urgent in 15 minutesarrow_forwardRead the following passage and answer the question that follows Quincy Snodgrass Enterprises—Forecasting Quincy Snodgrass is an entrepreneur and a lover of the outdoors. He has worked for various companies since he graduated college with his business administration degree in management. Over the years, he has saved every extra penny and now has the starting capital he needs; consequently, he plans to open his own business. Quincy plans to open a landscaping business. The primary services he’ll offer are grass cutting, edging, and bush trimming. Obviously, this will only provide income in the spring, summer, and early fall. Therefore, he plans to offer snow removal in the winter. His goal is to continue to provide those baseline services and expand into actual landscaping work. Quincy’s initial challenge is to develop a forecast of how many customers he’ll have each month. This is essential to determine if he needs to hire any additional labor throughout the season. Unfortunately, none…arrow_forward
- A suburb of Dayton, Ohio, has four local dry cleaners that compete with each other on the basis of price and service speed. Each of them can perform the same basic services at the same level of quality. The following table provides the price that each dry cleaner charges to clean a two-piece suit, as well as the quoted number of days that the service will take. Dry Cleaner Price Number of Days A $ 8.00 3 B $ 9.50 3 C $ 9.00 2 D $ 7.50 4 Which of these dry cleaners are NOT on the efficient frontier?arrow_forwardDeborah Kellogg buys Breathalyzer test sets for the Winter Park Police Department. The quality of the test sets from her two suppliers is indicated in the following table: For example, the probability of getting a batch of tests that are 1% defective from Winter Park Technology is .70. Because Kellogg orders 10,000 tests per order, this would mean that there is a .70 probability of getting 100 defective tests out of the 10,000 tests if Winter Park Technology is used to fill the order. A defective Breathalyzer test set can be repaired for $0.50. Although the quality of the test sets of the second supplier, Dayton Enterprises, is lower, it will sell an order of 10,000 test sets for $37 less than Winter Park. a) Develop a Decision Treeb) Which supplier should Kellog use? Currently, Taylor has one level of subscription service, the standard service. For $100 a month, the standard service provides its customers a monthly delivery of 10 clothing items carefully chosen to match the child's size, gender, and emerging style. The online clothing subscription market is fairly new but is growing rapidly and thus Taylor is considering extending the product line to increase its market share and profits. Taylor is debating whether to add a premium subscription service featuring profitable high-markup items for $125 per month, a basic subscription service that contains lower-markup popular items priced at $75 per month, or possibly both. Taylor knows that the new product lines provide an opportunity to attract more customers and possibly increase revenues and profit,…arrow_forward
