Choose the best statement regarding the R groups of amino acids in an alpha helix. Group of answer choices They are located in the interior of the helix. They stick out from the axis of the helix. They participate in H-bonds that stabilizes the helix. They are completely incompatible with helix formation.
Choose the best statement regarding the R groups of amino acids in an alpha helix.
Proteins are one among the 4 biomacromolecules prevalent in life forms. They are primarily polypeptide chains. The peptide chains are made up of amino acids linked to each other via the peptide bond. A peptide bond is formed between the Nitrogen atom of alpha amine group of one amino acid and the carbon of alpha carbonyl group of the next amino acid. The polypeptide chain hence formed then undergoes characteristic folding mainly guided by the hydrophobic effect and stabilized by hydrogen bonding. The structure hence formed is called the secondary structure of the protein. Alpha helix and Beta pleated sheets are the most common secondary structures exhibited by proteins.
