Biology Question

   All plasma membranes contain proteins and lipids as components. The basic structure of the plasma membrane is the lipid bilayer. The bilayer is composed of two layers of amphiphatic lipid molecules, whose major components are glycerol or an alcohol, fatty acids, phosphate and an alcohol attached to the phosphate. The polar head groups other than the fatty acids are in contact with the intra- or extracellular aqueous phase, whereas the fatty acids are hydrophobic, non-polar components, which constitute the interior of the membrane.
