Case summary

Anna is overweight and needs assistance with activities of daily living. Her skin folds on the abdomen and groin seems to  be reddish. Scars are present under the breast.

Obesity causes accumulation of fat under the skin forming large skin folds that rubs with the underlying skin surfaces. This friction and occlusion results in reddish painful skin rashes and maceration.  Warm, moist, and dark environment of the skinfolds are ideal for growth of microorganisms. It can be infected with candida or gram positive bacteria. This condition is called intertrigo, a common skin condition that is treatable.
