In the branch of psychology, the term, "experiments" are expressed as the investigation in which the assumptions or claims are tested in a scientific manner. In other words, it can also be expressed as, "to check whether there is a cause and effect relationship between two or more factors or elements or variables. Broadly, there are 3 categories of variables, name as: 

1. Independent Variable: The kind of element or factor whose value can easily be manipulated or changed.

2. Dependent Variable: The kind of element or factor whose value rest on or depend upon the independent factor. Change in independent element might affect the dependent factor.

3. Confounding Variable: These are the extraneous elements or factors which may hamper the outcomes of the study. For example, physical setting while conducting the study or the mental condition of the participants.

One of the most important things that need to be considered while conducting an experiment is that the sample of participants should be taken randomly. Also the sample should represent or portray the population for effective results.
