Jim's Job Shop buys two parts (Tegdiws and Widgets) for use in its production system from two different suppliers. The parts are needed throughout the entire 52-week year. Tegdiws are used at a relatively constant rate and are ordered whenever the remaining quantity drops to the reorder level. Widgets are ordered from a supplier who stops by every three weeks. Data for both products are as follows:
a. What is the inventory
Reorder quantity = 1,225
Reorder point = 824.24
b. Find the total inventory costs if using inventory policy.
This is a case considering safety stock (Do not use Excel, show your work)
Holding cost per unit per year is given as a percentage of item cost
ITEM | TEGDIW | WIDGET |
Annual Demand | 10,000 | 5,000 |
Holding cost (% of item cost) | 20% | 20% |
Set up or order cost | $150.00 | $25.00 |
Lead Time | 4 weeks | 1 week |
Safety stock | 55 units | 5 units |
Item cost | $10.00 | $2.00 |

- Given the following information, formulate an inventory management system. The item is demanded 50 weeks a year. PARAMETER Item cost Order cost Annual holding cost Annual demand Average weekly demand Standard deviation of weekly demand. Lead time. Service probability Optimal order quantity Reorder point units units VALUE $12.00 $194.00/order 21% of item cost 24,700 units 494 /week 20 units 2 week 95% a. Determine the order quantity and reorder point. (Use Excel's NORMSINV() function to find your z-value and then round that z- value to 2 decimal places. Do not round any other intermediate calculations. Round your final answers to the nearest whole number.)arrow_forwardIn the past, Taylor Industries has used a fixed-time period inventory system that involved taking a complete inventory count of all items each month. However, increasing labor costs are forcing Taylor Industries to examine alternative ways to reduce the amount of labor involved in inventory stockrooms, yet without increasing other costs, such as shortage costs. Here is a random sample of 20 of Taylor's items. Classify each item in inventory using an ABC plan.arrow_forwardFush uses an average of 40 boxes of paper serviettes a day. The restaurant operates 260 days per year, storage and handling costs for the serviettes are $ 30 per year per box, and it costs approximately $60 to order and receive a shipment of serviettes. a. Calculating the order size would minimise the sum of annual ordering and carrying costs? b. compute the total annual costs using your size from part a?arrow_forward
- Investigate the historical evolution of inventory management strategies, with a focus on the contributions of R. H. Wilson.arrow_forward52 Demand for an item is 3,800 units per year. Each order placed costs $15; the annual cost to carry items in inventory is $10 each. In what quantities should the item be ordered? Note: Round your answer to the nearest whole number.arrow_forwardAlpha Products, Inc., is having a problem trying to control inventory. There is insufficient time to devote to all its items equally. The following is a sample of some items stocked, along with the annual usage of each item expressed in dollar volume.in Table 3 (below): Table 3. - EOQ, reorder point, and safety stock Alexis Company uses 937units of a product per year on a continuous basis. The product has a fixed cost of $44 per order, and its carrying cost is $4 per unit per year. It takes 5 days to receive a shipment after an order is placed, and the firm wishes to hold 10 days' usage in inventory as a safety stock. a. Calculate the EOQ. b. Determine the average level of inventory. (Note: Use a 365-day year to calculate daily usage.) c. Determine the reorder point. d. Indicate which of the following variables change if the firm does not hold the safety stock: (1) order cost, (2) carrying cost, (3) total inventory cost, (4) reorder point, (5) economic order quantity.arrow_forwarda) What is the economic order quantity? b) Find the annual holding costs.c) Find the annual ordering costs.d) What is the reorder point?arrow_forwardGiven the following information, formulate an inventory management system.
