• a dy-orbital on one atom and a p.-orbital on another atom.
• a dy-orbital on one atom and a p,-orbital on another atom.
(i) Draw diagrams of the relevant atomic orbitals using the x axis as the bond
axis.
(ii) State whether the atomic orbitals have the correct symmetry to interact.
(iii) Where atomic orbitals can interact, draw the resulting bonding and
antibonding molecular orbitals indicating the phases and nodal planes. State
whether the molecular orbitals are of o or n type.
