Fluid Pressure
The term fluid pressure is coined as, the measurement of the force per unit area of a given surface of a closed container. It is a branch of physics that helps to study the properties of fluid under various conditions of force.
Gauge Pressure
Pressure is the physical force acting per unit area on a body; the applied force is perpendicular to the surface of the object per unit area. The air around us at sea level exerts a pressure (atmospheric pressure) of about 14.7 psi but this doesn’t seem to bother anyone as the bodily fluids are constantly pushing outwards with the same force but if one swims down into the ocean a few feet below the surface one can notice the difference, there is increased pressure on the eardrum, this is due to an increase in hydrostatic pressure.
- A cake has a mass of 300 grams that fits in a 30 by 10 by 6.0 cubic centimeters cake pan. What is the density of the cake?
- An average person normally excretes 1,375ml of urine each day. If the density of urine is 1.025g/ml, how many kg of urine are excreted in a week?
- The density of gasoline is 721 kilograms per cubic meter. What is its specific gravity?
- A nurse administers medication in a saline solution to a patient by infusion into a vein in the patient's arm. The density of the solution is 1.0 x 103 kg/m3, and the gauge pressure inside the vein is 2.4x 103 Pa. How high above the insertion point must the container be hung so that there is sufficient pressure to force the fluid into the patient?
5. A sample of carbon dioxide, CO2, occupies 300.mL at 10.0 ∘C and 740.torr. What volume will the gas have at 30.0∘C and 750torr?
