A 1.00×104-kg train car moving due east at 28.0 m/s collides with and couples to a 2.00×104-kg train car that is initially at rest.
What is the common velocity ?f of the two‑car train after the collision?
?f = 9.3m/s
What is the total kinetic energy ?i of the two train cars before the collision?
?i = ?J
What is the total kinetic energy ?f of the two train cars after the collision?
Kf= ?J
I got 9.3m/s for the common velocity, which was marked correct. But for Ki and Kf I got 392000 and 129735 respectively, and it says those answers are wrong. Please let me know what I am doing wrong!

- The ballistic pendulum is a device to measure the speed of a bullet using conservation of energy and momentum. A 20 g bullet is fired horizontally into a 1.1 kg wood block hanging from a 1.2-m-long string. The bullet embeds itself into the block, and the block then swings out to an angle of 35°. A. How high does the block of wood go relative to its initial height when its hanging straight down? B. What is the increase in gravitational potential energy of the wood block at its maximum height? C. Use conservation of energy to determine the speed of the block just after the bullet strikes it. D.
