Question

For part b, I do not really understand what the question is asking. During the 200 m trip upwards, to we have to consider that the elevator accelerates for 5 seconds, then decelarates for 5 secs and then moves with constant velocity?

I do get the final answer that is 45 secs, but Ido not conceptually understand how I am supposed to understand that there is a period of decelaration during the upward motion.

Could you please solve only part b and help me understand why both periods of acceleration and deceleration both need to be taken into consideration?
