Steroids - Steroids are generally the compound which are biologically active with four rings arranged in a specific molecular configuration. Steroids are generally lipids because these lipids are hydrophobic and insoluble in water but do not resemble lipids since having a four fused ring composed structure. Steroid are found in the brain and control electrical activity in the brain.
Cholesterol is the most common steroid. It is an component of phospholipid bilayer which plays an important role in the structure and function of membrane.
Functional group in lipids- Steroids generally having -OH functional group and these steroids are classified into alcohols and known as sterols . And steroids having four linked carbon fused ring with functional group -OH. Such as cholesterol and cortisol are the two steroids.
