Question
2. B. And check a if possible

Transcribed Image Text:2. One reason a standard solution of NaOH cannot be prepared from solid NaOH is that solid NaOH is
hygroscopic: it absorbs water vapor from the atmosphere. Assuming you calculated the concentration of
a NaOH solution by measuring the mass of a solid sample of NaOH and dissolving it in water, how
would this property of NaOH affect (e.g. increase, decrease, no change) the following steps in a titration?
Justify your choice.
The concentration of a NaOH solution made from solid NaOH that absorbed a significant amount of
water prior to measuring its mass.
Since the NaOH would absorb water, it's mass would be higher than
that of just NaOH. When we do our calculation for concentration,
our larger than actual mass will make the solution be calculated
more concentrated than it really is.
DS
b. The volume of the resulting prepared NaOH solution needed to titrate an acid.

Then return, put it down, and weigh yourself immediately three times. Since reporting your weight is a little too personal, I want you to tell me the variation between each reading (called a first derivative measurement). You should see the first weight is somewhat higher than the rest; often as much as 2-3 pounds. What do you th this tells you about your scale's quality? All other data is provided in the lab procedure Questions So, go ahead and answer them, then. a For measuring the block, (part 1) measure something and tell me what it is. Today, definitions.
