Question

Transcribed Image Text:2. Consider 1,3-cyclobutadiene,
and answer the following:
a) To what point group does it belong?
b) The T-bonding electron system is a result of the overlap of the p, orbitals on the four
carbons. Find the irreducible representations spanned by this basis set and construct the
symmetry adapted linear combinations of these four orbitals. Order them from lowest to highest
energy. HINT: Lowest energy combination will change sign the least (e.g. pi+p2+p3+p4 does not
change sign at all).
