2. Fill half of a 50-mL beaker with crushed ice. Then, approximately 10 mL of water to
the beaker. Do step 3 while the water is chilling.
3. Label three clean test tubes, 1 to 3. Add a pinch of sodium chloride to each test tube
Place the tubes in a test tube rack.
4. Fill half of test tube 1 with ice-cold water. Fill half of test tube 2 with water at roor
temperature. Fill half of test tube 3 with boiling water from the beaker.
Note: Do step 4 with the test tubes placed in the test tube rack. Do not hold the test
tube while pouring boiling water into it.
5. Gently shake the contents of the test tubes by moving the test tube rack back and
forth. Note how long it takes the content of each tube to dissolve. Record your
observations in Table 2.

2. Put one crystal of NaCl each into test tubes 1 and 2.
3. Crush two crystals of NaCl using a mortar and pestle. Put equal amounts of the
powdered NaCl into test tubes 3 and 4.
4. Fill half of each test tube with water.
5. Place test tubes 1and 3 in the test tube rack without shaking. Stir test tubes 2 and 4
6. Note how long it takes the content of each test tube to dissolve, Record your
observations in Table 1.
B. Effect of Temperature
1. Pour 15 mL of water into a big test tube. Heat the water until it boils, While the water
is being heated, do step 2.
