Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela, also affectionately known 'Madiba' was the anti-apartheid leader of South Africa. He became part of active politics by joining the African National Congress in 1944. He organized several protests against the apartheid policies of the ruling National Party. He was arrested several times, and his efforts led to the end of Apartheid. Post-Apartheid, he was released from imprisonment and elected as the first black president of South Africa. Nelson Mandela died at the age of 95 on 5 December 2013 in Johannesburg, and his final resting place is located at Qunu, East, South Africa. He along with Frederik Willem de Klerk was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize 1993 for their work against Apartheid.
