1.) What is the concentration of lead in a saturated solution of lead(II) chloride?

2.) Silver and lead(II) ions are precipitated in excess chloride. What is the solubility of lead(II) chloride in 0.5 M HCL?

Expert Solution
Step 1

Introduction:

In a saturated solution of a particular salt, there is an existence of a dynamic equilibrium between the undissolved solute and dissolved constitute ions of that solute. In that situation, the product of the concentration of the constituted ions is called the solubility product (ksp).

For example, in a saturated solution (satd. soln) of NaCl, the following equilibrium exist,

                                 NaCl (s, satd. soln) Na+(aq.) + Cl-(aq.)

Now, ksp = [Na+][Cl-]
