Homicide is the act of one person causing the death of another person. For the individuals and communities involved, it is a violent and illegal crime that may have major social and psychological repercussions. Homicide can happen for a number of reasons, like as with malicious purpose, in self-defense, when someone dies accidentally, or even during times of conflict.

Homicide can have a significant effect on the victim's family, friends, and the larger community. Homicide survivors may face a variety of mental, physical, and social difficulties, such as loss, trauma, and stigma. For the survivors and other people touched by the killing, the criminal court system and other social institutions may also get involved, adding to the stress and difficulties they already face.
