A#3-13.1-2 Homework
1. A certain stock opens with a price of $0.59. Over the first three days, the value of the stock increases on average by 50% per day. If this trend continues, how many days will it take for the stock to be worth $6?
2. Sue has a lamp from her great-grandmother. She has it appraised and finds it is worth $1000. She wants to sell it, but the appraiser tells her that the value is appreciating by 8% per year. In how many years will the value of the lamp be $2000?
3. A quantity of insulin used to regulate sugar in the bloodstream breaks down by about 5% each minute after the injection. A bodyweight-adjusted dose is generally 10 units. How long does it take for the remaining insulin to be half of the original injection?
4. Music Stringed instruments like guitars and pianos create a note when a string vibrates back and forth. The distance that the middle of the string moves from the center is called the amplitude (a), and for a guitar, it starts at 0.75 mm when a note is first struck. Amplitude decays at a rate that depends on the individual instrument and the note, but a decay rate of about 25% per second is typical. Calculate the time it takes for an amplitude of 0.75 mm to reach 0.1 mm.

- Inflation causes things to cost more, and for our money to buy less (hence your grandparents saying "In my day, you could buy a cup of coffee for a nickel"). Suppose inflation decreases the value of money by 5% each year. In other words, if you have $1 this year, next year it will only buy you $0.95 worth of stuff. How much will $100 buy you in 10 years?arrow_forwardQ6 Your client has been given a trust fund valued at $1.64 million. She cannot access the money until she turns 65 years old, which is in 15 years. At that time, she can withdraw $18,000 per month. If the trust fund is invested at a 4.5 percent rate, how many months will it last your client once she starts to withdraw the money? (Do not round intermediate calculations and round your final answer to 2 decimal places.) NUMBER OF MONTHS?arrow_forwardIf You have this information about return of stock in 3 periods: -12%, 20% and 25%. calculate: The arithmetic average. The geometric average.arrow_forward
- A store shows a net profit of $65,250 for the year. If the store profit increases by 3.75% per year for the next 15 years what will the net profit be at that point?arrow_forwardQuestion 5 of 6 The price of a company's share dropped by 3.50% by the end of the first year, down to $50.25. During the second year the price of the share dropped by $2.26. a. What was the price of the share at the beginning of the first year? $0.00 Round to the nearest cent b. What was the price of the share at the end of the second year? $0.00 Round to the nearest cent c. What was the percent change in the price of the share over the two years? 0.00 %arrow_forward1 2 3 4 Question Account A and B each start out with $500.
