1) An initially non-charged gold leaf inside an electroscope has a total dimension of 2 [cm] x 4
[cm]. It is folded in half to have two equal squares of 2 [cm] x 2 [cm] on either side.
1a) A charged probe of +5*10^(-6) [C] is brought near the tip of the electroscope but does not
touch. What effect do you predict will happen to the gold leaves and why?
1b) The same charged probe now makes contact to the electroscope and it's net charge is
reduced to +2.5*10^(-6) [C] and the electroscope is removed. Explain what had happened and
what is the surface charge density of each of the squares of the gold leaf?
1c) If the gold leaf squares are separated by an angle of 90 degrees, what is the magnitude of
the electric force per area between the centers of the squares?

When the balls are given the same charge Q, the threads hang at 0 = 3.0° to the vertical. What is the magnitude of Q?arrow_forwardA dipole is centered at the origin, and is composed of particles with charges +e and -e, separated by a distance 0.3 nm along the y-axis. The +e charge is on the -y-axis and the -e charge is on the +y-axis. A proton is located at nm. What is the force on the proton due to the dipole? )N 1.35*10^-16 1.35 · 10-16 Determine where you should place an electron so that the net force (from the dipole and the electron) on the proton will be zero. пт 80 80arrow_forward
