3) Features with load
a) Connect the circuit illustrated in Figure 1, using the EMS Modules of synchronous motor/generator, c-d motor/generator, resistor, power supply and measurement. Notice that the balanced resistive load is connected in a star to the three-phase output of the alternator. The alternator rotor is connected to the variable output, 0-220V c-d of the power supply, terminals 7 and N. The c-d shunt motor winding connects to the fixed 220 V c-d output of the power supply, terminals 8 and N.
b) Couple the engine to the alternator by means of the belt.
c) Adjust the field rheostat of the c-d motor to its extreme position by turning its control knob clockwise (for minimal resistance).
d) Adjust each resistance section to a value of 1100 ohm.
e) Connect the power supply and, looking at the handheld tachometer, set the rheostat of the c-d motor to a speed of 1500 r/min.
f) Close the S switch and adjust the alternator's c-d excitation until the output voltage E1 = 380Vc-a. Measure and annotate I1 and I2 fully loaded.
g) Open the switches of the 3 load resistors, so that the alternator works in vacuum, and measure and write down E1 and I2. Remember to check the engine speed and set it to 1500 r/min, if necessary.
h) Reduce the voltage to zero and disconnect the power supply.
i) Calculate alternator regulation with resistive load
j) Calculate the input power, the poles of the machine.
